Because Colden's room was already set up for a baby (see: "Nursery" post), we decided to turn our spare bedroom into his new big boy room and keep his old room set up for the baby.
Colden has actually been sleeping in his new big boy room since the beginning of July. I have just been a little slow in doing this post. As you can see, Colden was ready to sleep in his new big boy bed before we were ready for him to:

Here he is sleeping in his new room the night we got his big boy bed. Before we bought any of his bedding...before we decorated his room (at least we painted over the purple walls with this fun blue color). We even had to quickly run to the store to buy his bed rails, just so that he could sleep in his new bed. He was so excited!
If you haven't gathered by now, Colden loves (is obsessed with) all modes of transportation...planes, helicopters, trucks (especially fire trucks), boats etc. So, I thought - why not give the boy what he loves and make a transportation themed big boy room?
Looking for Colden's room? Just look for the transportation themed sign on the door...
Or the train mezuzah...

(Yes, I know - I have to get a scroll)
Enter.
Immediately to your right when you walk into his room:

(Night table with his books and clock)

I LOVE this clock. I set the "alarm" so that when it's OK for him to get out of bed, the red light turns green. He has learned the slogan, "Red means, stay in bed. Green means, OK to get up" (I couldn't think of anything to rhyme with green). It's actually helped keep our early riser in bed a little bit longer.

Transportation bedspread and throw pillow...personalized step stool (that he got when he was born) to help him into his big boy bed...and totally awesome, personalized wall sign that I helped design. Notice the rest area sign pointing to his bed (how clever). :-)
This is your view as you enter his room. His dresser and toy bins are along the far wall. The walls are of course adorned with transportation decals.
Colden loves showing off his decals:
I also thought it would be fun for Colden to add some of his own personal touches to his room. I bought some transportation themed canvasses and had him paint them (the canvasses had pictures of various trucks on them and they were meant to be paint-by-number). But, life is all about coloring outside of the lines, right?

(He also had fun painting himself)
His art collection hangs on the wall next to his closet.

And if you ask him, he will proudly tell you that he painted them all by himself!
Now that he is out of his crib, it's fun to read bedtime stories while snuggling with him in bed. Colden will pick out his 2 books, hop into bed, scooch over and say, "Here, mommy/daddy...I made room for you"
Sleep tight, little man!
Such a big boy in a big boy room!
Speaking of "big boy"...I will take this opportunity to give you an update on his potty training (see: "Potty Training" post):
He is no longer in diapers. At all. He is even wearing underwear at night, and has been waking up dry! After almost a week of wearing underwear to bed, he has yet to have a single accident!!! And during the day, he now tells us when he has to use the potty (we don't have to ask him every 5 minutes).
Colden is officially potty-trained!
