"Swimming"

What do you do when it's 90+ degrees outside?

Why - you go swimming, of course!

Bathing suits...sun glasses...hats...all we need now is a pool.

OK, so it's not a lap pool...but it fits the three of us and does the trick.  Besides, how can you not love a pool that has little fish and seahorses on it?!?

Ah yes, a pool of convenience.  Why, we just have to walk out our back door and go no farther than our deck!

Endless possibilities:  we can grill, eat tomatoes or lettuce from our garden...all while swimming in our pool.

We even have an umbrella for shade.  Quite the setup!

Not sure who had more fun...

Hangin' Out

When Mike and I were picking out bedding for Colden's crib, we decided to buy each item separately and mix and match instead of buying a bedding set.  After searching online, we found a bumper for the crib that we liked - unfortunately, it was brand new and wouldn't even be available for purchase until the beginning of June (we discovered it in March, before he was born).  Should we wait?  Sure, why not.  After all, he would only be 2 months old...would he even really need a bumper by then?...

Poor little guy.  He would scoot in his crib while he was sleeping and get his legs caught between the slats.  As you can see from the last picture above, he was not a happy camper when he got stuck.  Needless to say, I called the company the next day to find out when exactly the bumper was going to be available in stores.

Woohoo!  The bumper came in today!

Kick all you want, little man.  Your legs are safe!

By the way, it looks like Colden learned his new favorite sleeping position from Frankie.

2 Months Old

2 month checkup at the doctor's office:

Weight:  12 pounds, 13 ounces

Length:  23 inches

 He was such a good boy at the doctor's office - even when he had to get a shot in his leg (hence the band-aid).

Colden is so much more alert now.  He loves looking around - and while he often stares at something that is beyond us (a light fixture, a shadow on the wall), he has also taken quite a liking to people's faces...

Now that Colden is a big boy, we decided that he was ready for his big boy room.  I should rephrase that and say "mommy was ready for him to leave our room and go into his own room".

He first slept in his own room during nap time.  I thought that would ease the transition (for me).

In my defense, it was just easier to keep him right next to our bed at night when he was eating every 2 to 3 hours.  That way, I could sleepily reach over and get him, feed him and put him right back in his crib with minimal effort on my part.  Now that my little angel sleeps for about 7 to 8 hours at night (woohoo!), having him down the hall isn't such a bad thing.

It only took me 2 months to be able to have my little man sleep in a different room than me.  I guess it's true that children are often ready to grow up before the parents are ready to see them grow up.  I can't even imagine what it will be like when it's time for him to get on the school bus.  Well, at least I have several years to mentally prepare myself for that!

Colden Meets Cousin Chaya

Apparently, this is the year for babies in our family!  Colden was born on April 2, 2010 and his two second-cousins, Chaya (daughter of Shana and James) and Julian (son of Craig and Lauren) were both born on May 25, 2010.  

While driving up from dad and Ilona's lake house Memorial Day weekend, we swung by my cousin Shana's house for a visit:

Here, two-month-old Colden is being introduced to his six-day-old cousin, Chaya.  (Could my Aunt Merri look any more proud of her new granddaughter?)

Both Colden and Chaya were born at almost the same weight and length - look at how much they grow in just 8 weeks!  When I held Chaya, I couldn't believe that Colden was ever that small.  He looks like a giant sitting next to her!
